Heuristics for setting reorder levels in periodic review inventory systems with an aggregate service constraint

چکیده
Inventory managers are responsible for the trade-off between inventory holding costs and customer service. In this paper we consider a periodic review multi-item system with exogenous lot-sizes backordering. The objective is to minimize total subject constraint that aggregate fill rate should be at least equal target level. weighted average of rates all items in assortment. We three ways defining rate: using generic weights, weights based on demand (volume) or (monetary) turnover. show definition service can have huge effects performance system. So, very careful which apply. also derive four heuristics determine reorder levels items. One heuristic applied many problems including multi-echelon systems constrained ready rate. Since multiple assumptions made common literature, first test accuracy these approximations simulation. Next, evaluate data from large international reseller. most accurate approximation performs best, close optimal efficient. Savings compared no level differentiation (up 28.7%) depend

Heuristics for Constraint-Directed Scheduling with Inventory
Despite the importance of the management of inventory in industrial scheduling applications, there has been little research that has addressed reasoning about inventory directly as part of a scheduling problem. In this paper, we represent inventory, inventory storage constraints, and inventory production and consumption in a constraint-directed scheduling framework. Inventory scheduling is then...
متن کاملEstimating stock levels in periodic review inventory systems
Calculating the mean physical stock in a simple periodic review inventory system seems to be straightforward. However, the standard approximate expressions appear to yield inaccurate results, especially for low service levels. Low service levels are frequently encountered at intermediate nodes in cost-optimal solutions for multiechelon systems. In this note, we present an improved approximate m...
متن کاملNewsboy Characterizations for the Optimal Reorder Levels of Multi-Echelon Inventory Systems with Fixed Batch Sizes
This note considers an N -stage serial production/inventory system where materials flow from one stage to another in fixed batches. Linear holding and penalty costs (for backorders) are assumed. By Chen [2000], echelon stock (R,nQ) policies are optimal for such systems. Based on the results of Chen [1998], we show that the optimal reorder levels satisfy newsboy inequalities (equalities) when th...
متن کاملOrder splitting under periodic review inventory systems
Most research on order splitting have focused on the reduction of safety stock in the multiple sourcing setting. Moreover, all works study the use of order splitting for the continuous review inventory systems. In this paper, we investigate the possibility of the multiple-delivery arrangement in the sole sourcing environment. In addition, we concentrate on the reduction of cycle stock for perio...
متن کاملPeriodic review, push inventory policies for remanufacturing
Sustainability has become a major issue in most economies, causing many leading companies to focus on product recovery and reverse logistics. This research is focused on product recovery, and in particular on production control and inventory management in the remanufacturing context. We study a remanufacturing facility that receives a stream of returned products according to a Poisson process. ...
